The fastest way to make generative output look designed.
Random colour is the quickest route to work that looks accidental. Picking four or five colours that belong together and sticking to them will do more for the result than almost any change to the geometry.
A palette carries relationships. Hue, saturation and value have been settled against each other before the system ever runs, so whichever colours it reaches for, they still agree.
Convert a palette to greyscale and you are looking at what the composition will actually read like. Colours of similar value sit flat against each other no matter how far apart their hues are. A palette with a real spread of light and dark gives a system somewhere to put emphasis.
This is an accessibility question too. Text over generative artwork needs a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 to be legible, and contrast ratio is a value relationship. Hue has nothing to do with it.
The strongest arrangement is to fix the palette yourself and let the system decide where each colour lands: by depth, by age, by density, by category. The colours stay harmonious and the placement stays surprising.
